Big Pharma’s Answer to Weight Loss Gone Bad

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Phentermine vs. Hamalyan Goji JuiceLook, once a society starts doing well, it is always possible that to get more food cheaper and cheaper. That’s good considering that that there are billions of people in the world that don’t have enough to go around. The problem arises when people start to gain weight, and obesity becomes an epidemic like it has in the United States.

On the business side, where there is a need, there will be some one trying to fulfill that need and thus make a living. You can’t really blame them. They did not create the problem, they are just trying to offer you a solution hoping to make some money. The problem is with modern medicine today that a pharmaceutical company will produce a drug that has a lot of side effects and not a lot to show for results.

There is the weight loss drug called Phentermine that has been around the sixties. It is designed suppress the patients appetite. It works well, which is about ten to fifteen percent higher weight loss than not taking it. That sounds quite all right, if you don’t read the fine print. For instance, they don’t want you take the pill too late in the day, because it will keep you up at night. I believe it is because your body starts to produce adrenaline. It can also cause dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea (how can it cause either one or the other is a mystery to me) and restlessness. That is if you are otherwise healthy. If you are taking other medication, your doctor needs to be very careful to make sure that it does not produce other side effects.

Now, it has been shown that there are herbs that can do just as good of a job in certain situations as synthetic drugs (and yes I am referring to the Himalayan goji juice here quite interestingly), but the problem is you can’t patent a living organism, therefore there is no money in it. Go figure.

Goji Berry and Substance Abuse

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I have found an interesting blog today. It is not exclusively about alternative medicine and herbs, but it has a few really good articles on the subjects. SurayBlog has one particularly interesting article about drug rehabilitation and recovering from substance abuse in general. It made me think about what possible use Himalayan goji juice and other goji herbal products could have on people who have made some poor choices in the past and now can’t seem to be able to get rid of the consequences.

Somehow I haven’t found any literature or articles on the subject. Maybe, the people who are looking for products like goji juice are already health conscious, and stay away from drugs. Maybe, this is the reason why no one tries to use the herb to this effect.

In any case, I do not think that the wolfberry can help you quit any bad habit no matter how mild or severe it may be. However, what it might be able to do is to help your body repair some of the damage quicker or at least do some damage control. Illegal drugs can do extensive damage to the entire body. Ingesting herbal supplements such as the Himalayan goji juice, that have been proven to help the body gain more energy and remove harmful free radicals can only help a recovering drug addict.

Goji Juice Diabetes – Goji Cures Diabetes?

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Goji Juice Diabetes – Goji Cures Diabetes?Goji Juice Diabetes. Goji Juice lowers blood sugar in certain cases. Quite a few people have reported that after taking goji juice on a regular basis, their blood sugar level dropped to a level where they had to cut back on their medication.

While these testimonials are anecdotal, dismissing them would be a mistake. There is no reason to assume that unsolicited testimonials about the effect of goji juice on a person’s diabetes are false or a downright lie. I must be said, though, that medical science is skeptical at best about the effects of goji juice in general at this point. That includes whatever effect the substance may have on diabetes.

However, the scientific community is playing catch up at this point, since there haven’t been a lot of studies done regarding the goji juice diabetes relationship. Doctors and especially medical researchers are known to be in the back pockets of major pharmaceutical companies whom have an incentive against anything that can’t be put a patent on. Even if there was a strong goji juice diabetes connection, it is quite possible that special interest groups would try to discredit these findings, suppress them or, at least, try to delay the adaptation of the substance by the general public by any means necessary.

There is at least one medical doctor who, while skeptical, is willing to entertain the goji juice diabetes connection, simply because he has had a patience whose blood sugar level dropped after she started to take goji. He also says that he has knowledge of research where goji juice had an affect on diabetes in animals. The research suggests that the substance helped with the condition by lowering the need to rely on insulin to manage blood sugar levels. Read his article here.

In traditional Chinese medicine, it is also listed as a possible treatment for diabetes among a lot of other things.

One thing people should be aware of, perhaps, is that we cannot discount the possibility of the placebo effect. It is quite possible that people talking about the effect goji juice might have on diabetes people managed to summon their bodies’ natural, but still very little understood, self-healing powers. It is still a great thing and definitely better than the alternative.

In the final analysis, one needs to be real careful about risking what may even be their very life. Diabetes should not be taken lightly and you should not through your insulin in the garbage just yet. However, if goji juice does have an effect on diabetes, it would be foolish to argue with results.
